
2021 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final 29 – 30 Sep 2021, Yankton (USA)
The two-day showpiece competition at Yankton saw the world top archers compete for the coveted crown. Best eight archers from four stages of the World Cup qualified for the World Cup Final. A total of 32 competitors across men’s and women’s recurve and compound sections where seen in action. Qualifier from India were Atanu Das, Deepika Kumari in Recurve and Abhishek Verma in Compound.
Abhishek Verma, crashed out in the men’s individual quarterfinals, losing 146-142 to American Braden Gellenthien, who went on to win the Gold Medal in the Finals.
Atanu Das, making his debut in the WCF, rallied to beat German Maximilian Weckmuller 6-2 in the recurve men’s individual quarterfinals. However, he was beaten 6-2 by current World No. 1 Brady Ellison of the USA in the semifinals.
In the bronze medal match against reigning Olympic champion Mete Gazoz of Turkey, Atanu lost 6-0 in straight sets.
Deepika Kumari, who has slipped to world number two after her quarterfinals loss to Korean An San at the Tokyo Olympics, was looking to make amends and add a Gold to her kitty of four silver and a bronze medal from seven appearances in WCF.
Deepika defeated Svetlana Gomboeva of Russia 6-4 in the quarterfinals, but lost to Elena Osipova of Russian 6-2 in the semifinals.
In a hard fought bronze medal match, Deepika Kumari lost to Michelle Kroppen of Germany 6-5.
