India’s three-time World Cup gold medal-winning compound archer Abhishek Verma has been elected to World Archery’s athletes’ committee for a four-year term. The 32-year-old Indian compound archer, currently ranked 6th was elected alongside reigning women’s world champion Natalia Avdeeva of Russia after participants voted during Yankton 2021 Hyundai World Archery Championships. The duo will serve for four years and join chair Naomi Folkard, and members Sjef van den Berg and Crystal Gauvin on the committee.

Abhishek Verma was conferred the Arjuna Award in 2014 for his Outstanding Performance in Compound archery. Abhishek Verma was part of the team that won silver medal at Asian Games 2018. He also won gold (Team) and silver medal (Individual) at the 2014 Asian Games. He has brought many laurels for India for close to a decade in World Archery Championships, World Cup and Asian Archery Championship in Individual, Team and Mixed team events.
